Residents urged to recycle more this Christmas

As Dudley prepares to celebrate the festive season, Dudley Council is reminding residents that they can recycle more plastics this Christmas.

The local authority now collects plastic in the form of pots, tubs and food trays, as well as bottles, in the green recycling bags. People are asked to leave out black plastic as it has a carbon black pigment and cannot be picked up by the optical sorting technology.

Residents should continue to recycle cardboard, paper, glass and tins and are asked to clean and sort waste into the correct container, placing out on collection day.

Councillor Karen Shakespeare, cabinet member for public realm, said:

Every week our waste operatives collect tons of plastic from our residents for recycling.

Plastics are sent to a recycling facility to be washed, separated and turned into pellets, before being sent on to manufacturers who turn it into other items such as new plastic bottles and food packaging.

Residents can help the planet by recycling soft drink bottles, fresh cream tubs and prepared food trays this Christmas but we’re asking everyone to squash materials down to help us get more on our vehicles and reduce our carbon footprint.

People can find out more about Dudley’s recycling at www.dudleyrecycles.org.uk.

Christmas Bins and Recycling Collections

Put your waste and recycling out on normal collection days this Christmas, as there are no service disruptions.

Your waste and recycling should be placed outside for collection by 6.15am but be aware that Christmas collections may be earlier or later than usual.

Please make sure your grey bin lid is shut and do not put out additional waste sacks as these can't be collected.
